6 Tips for Developing Your Personal Style

Developing your personal style can be an exciting and rewarding process. It is a reflection of your personality and can make you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. Here are some tips on how to develop your personal style:

Know Yourself

The first step in developing your personal style is to know yourself. This involves understanding your personality, your lifestyle, and your preferences. Ask yourself what makes you feel comfortable and confident. What colors, patterns, and fabrics do you prefer? What styles and silhouettes do you feel most comfortable in? Understanding these things will help you define your personal style. If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to knowing how to dress, consider hiring a professional style coach to guide you.

Take Inspiration

Once you have a better understanding of your preferences, it’s time to take inspiration. Look to fashion magazines, social media, and even your friends and family for inspiration. This doesn’t mean you should copy their style, but rather take inspiration and incorporate it into your own personal style. Here at The Style Warden, I use a signature process for creating inspiration called a Vibe Board. The Vibe Board is a unique way of gathering inspiration from your life and style to create a vision for your overall look. Experiment

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles, colors, and patterns. Trying out new things is a great way to find what works for you and what doesn’t. You may find that something you never thought would work for you actually looks great. Remember, building your wardrobe and developing your personal style takes time. It will not happen overnight, so don’t be afraid to have some trial periods when getting started.

Invest in Basics

Invest in basics that you can mix and match. These items will form the foundation of your wardrobe and can be dressed up or down. Invest in high-quality basics that will last for years and that you can wear in a variety of ways. Not sure what basics you need? Download my free wardrobe essentials checklist here!

Add Personality

Once you have your basics, it’s time to add some personality. This is where you can incorporate your own unique style into your wardrobe. Add accessories, statement pieces, and pops of color to show off your personality. Making style your own has much more to do with styling and accessories than it does the actual clothes you buy.

Be Confident

The most important thing when it comes to developing your personal style is to be confident. Wear what makes you feel good and don’t worry about what others think. Remember, your personal style is a reflection of who you are, so own it!

Developing your personal style is a process that takes time and experimentation. Know yourself, take inspiration, experiment, invest in basics, add personality, and be confident. With these tips, you can develop a personal style that reflects your personality and makes you feel comfortable and confident.
